How to Use Emojis on Chromebook
Learn how to open the built-in ChromeOS emoji picker, use shortcuts, search symbols, and insert GIFs on your Chromebook.
To open the emoji picker on any Chromebook running ChromeOS:
The ChromeOS floating emoji panel appears instantly next to your text cursor.
Step-by-Step: Typing Emojis on ChromeOS
Click into a Text Field
Click inside any text box where you want to add an emoji (Google Docs, Gmail, YouTube comments, Discord, or search bars).
Press Search + Shift + Space
Hold down the Search 🔍 (or Launcher button with the circle icon), press Shift, and hit Space.
Search or Filter Emojis
Type any keyword in the search bar at the top of the palette (e.g. "cool", "fire", "coffee") or browse category icons along the bottom.
Click to Insert
Click any emoji to insert it. The panel stays open so you can insert multiple emojis in a row. Click outside or press Esc when finished.

If you forget the shortcut, simply tap your Chromebook touchpad with two fingers inside any text box to trigger the right-click menu, then click "Emoji" at the top!
